Incubation and Diversification of Banana Products for Agribusiness (IDBPA) Incubator consortium which won a grant has been mandated by Universities, Business and Research in Agricultural Innovation (UniBRAIN) – funded by DANIDA – to register a company limited by guarantee. This company is “Afri Banana Products (Uganda) Ltd”. Afri Banana Products (U) Ltd – ABP (U) Ltd is an Incubator and its the legal entity formed to implement all the activities of IDBPA Incubator consortium.

ABP (U) Ltd is up-scaling innovations aimed at improvement of entrepreneurial skills in banana value chain development among universities, business and agricultural research institutions. ABP (U) Ltd aims at commercializing agricultural technologies by working with graduates to enhance entrepreneurial and business skills through agribusiness incubator partnerships and provide a platform for sharing and up-scaling UniBRAIN’s innovative outputs, experiences and practices.

Afri Banana Product Ltd was established to address the following objectives

  1. To identify and promote entrepreneurs to take up different agro businesses in the banana value chain including production of Tissue culture seedlings, Matooke, Banana fibre products, briquettes using banana peel and other wastes, Biogas development etc through incubation
  2. To establish a single window system to promote entrepreneurs in the Banana value chain
  3. To guide entrepreneurs through incubation and provide services including technology transfer to turn them in to successful agripreneurs
  4. To provide market linkages to entrepreneurs so as to enable them to realise better prices for their products.
  5. To undertake capacity building programs so as to attract youth, students, farmers groups to take up agro ventures

  3. To develop and support gender sensitive entrepreneur development.
